KAVIN BUCK “Lost Highways: Watercolors” is a documentation of paintings by artist Kavin Buck during the winter of 2023-24. The catalog was published in conjunction with Buck’s solo exhibition “Far Away Places | Runaway Trains” at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2024. The 60-page book includes over 40 color images representing a selection of Buck’s “Lost Highways” watercolors created in the Fall of 2023 through the Spring of 2024 with an introduction by the artist. The paintings of both traditional and abstracted landscapes are in the West Coast style of wet-into-wet watercolor and depict minimal yet complicated vistas with a balance of time-worn histories of romanticism, realism, and abstraction. The introduction by Kavin Buck tells why at this stage of his career he came to create this series of intimate artworks, while also weaving personal recollections of his beginning as an artist.

KAVIN BUCK: Selections from the Passages Series 2015 - 2020
Landscape painting is as dynamic today as it has ever been and for many contemporary painters, the subject matter is a fundamental lens into how they see our place in the world.
“KAVIN BUCK: Selections from the Passages Series 2015 – 2020” is a documentation of paintings, works on paper, and drawings by artist Kavin Buck. The hardbound book was published in conjunction with Buck’s solo exhibition “It’s Good To Be On The Road Back Home Again” at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, Oregon in July 2021. The 92-page book includes over 80 color images representing a selection of Buck’s “Passages Series” from 2015 through 2020 with an essay by writer and curator Ed Schad. The paintings and drawings of abstracted landscapes are filled with vistas that are minimal yet complicated with underlying metaphors of remembrance and expectations. Embedded in each artwork are subtle elements that balance time-worn histories of romanticism, realism, and abstraction. The essay by Schad is both enlightening on how Buck came to create this series of artworks, while also weaving personal recollections of his conversations with the artist over the years.
